3Com PXE & Ghost

Postby Thrakorzog » Wed May 23, 2007 4:09 pm

I use Symantec Ghost for other purposes in the same environment as UDA. Has anyone successfully brought the images over from the 3Com TFTP directories and gotten them to work on the UDA? I would like to make this happen to avoid having to change out DHCP settings each time I need a different PXE server.

Thanks

I have got ghost ver 11 working with uda.

I can boot the pxe, but I still need a windows machine to run ghostcast server.

How did you do the image? Did you just copy the TFTP image from the 3Com TFTP that comes with Ghost Suite? Did you create a boot CD with drivers & all that jazz and then use it as an ISO base?

Very curious about this.

Thanks,

Ghost on UDA

I had remote installation installed on a windows server.

I grabbed the ghost.dsk file from there.

You need to use a program called WINIMAGE to modify ghost.dsk so that it thinks it is a 2.8mb disk.

I ssh into the UDA machine and edit /var/public/tftproot/pxelinux.cfg/default

and add

label ghost
kernel GHOST\kernels\memdisk
append initrd=GHOST\images\ghost.dsk

then you need to edit /var/public/tftproot/messages.txt

and add

ghost Norton Ghost PXE Boot

Download this zip file
http://www.lhsc.vic.edu.au/Downloads/px ... EGhost.zip
and extract the contents into /var/public/tftproot/GHOST

place the modified ghost.dsk into the /var/public/tftproot/GHOST/images folder

BE WARNED when you add another OS on the UDA webpage it throws away the settings in the default and messages.txt file

That is what I did

What is the "ghost.dsk"?

May be, you may upload your "ghost.dsk"?

Thank you.

I used the Ghost Boot Wizard software that came with the Ghost Solution Suite.
This allowed me to create a "TCP/IP Network Boot Image"
When I was finished, I renamed this file Ghost.dsk. This worked with the excellent instructions that Tsyko worked up.

(note: minor discrepancy, it is the message.txt file instead of messages.txt)

Thanks,

How can you get ghost working in version 2.0?

there isn't a "message.txt" file

is there somewhere else where I can add the text
